Kathryn “Kitty” Hach-Darrow has generously made a bequest of $500,000 to the Department of Chemistry in the College of Natural Sciences. This gift will have a tremendous impact on the department. Ms. Hach-Darrow is a valued friend of the College of Natural Sciences and has been a steadfast supporter of our students and programs not only personally, but also through the Hach Scientific Foundation, which provides premier scholarships to our outstanding chemistry students.
Kitty was raised on a Missouri farm, and later attended Iowa State University where she met her husband-to-be Clifford Hach and earned a degree in Food and Nutrition. They started the Hach Chemical Company in 1948 with the proceeds from a patent that Clifford authored. Clifford did the chemistry while Kitty did all the marketing and business activities.
By 1968 the Company was publicly held and had a complete water analysis product line developed. Clifford passed away in 1995 and Kitty served as CEO and Chairman of the Board for Hach Chemical Company. She was the first woman director of the American Water Works Association, and the first woman to serve as director of the First National Bank of Loveland, CO. She is a founding member of the Ninety-Nines—an international organization of licensed women pilots. She has been flying over 50 years, is multi-engine, instrument and jet rated, and has accumulated over 7,000 hours of flying time.
Thank you for your belief in Colorado State University and your generosity!
